I have always worried about the radioactive leak from the Fukushima nuclear power plants. I wonder if the contaminated sea water will spread to other parts of the world, and the article confirms my fear. It is true that the radioactive water is spreading through the Pacific Ocean, and that it will reach the US coastal soon (though a great portion of it has spread through the air). However, it reassures that the water will be less radioactive, thanks to the strong ocean currents that help to mix it up.
The problem is, most of the radioactive water ends up in the great oceanic gyre, like the debris from the disaster. And as we know, objects in the gyre will eventually wash up into the shorelines of nearby continents. I shudder when I think about people and animals picking up and coming into contact with those objects as they go about their lives in the beach.
